| Subject: What Is Role Play? RPG? Tue Jun 19, 2007 6:22 am | |
| Role playing is a game where you interact with friends in a real time setting that is all done with words. Simply put role playing games are a highly imaginative activity that can provide hours of fun and a means of creative expression.
So the next question I hear is *But how do I go about it?*". and *How do I create the character* In role playing you create a fictional character who can then be placed in given situations appropriate for the role playing game. You play the role of that character, just like an actor does in a movie, but unlike acting, there is no script. Everything that you say and do is done in an ad-lib fashion according to the situation and the personality and background that you've established for the character.
The Character itself can be anyone you like. You may choose to play a character close to who you are in real life, or you may wish to try something you've always dreamed about. Ever wondered what it would be like to be evil if in real life you are nice. Role playing is fantasy at its best and where you can act out any fantasy your heart desires. Your character will have what we call traits, that is the actions and feelings you wish this character to have. They may sneaky they might have strength, or they may lie. Their personality, strengths, weaknesses and history is all up to you. You virtually create a character out of a book and try to make others believe this character is real.
Its a place where players forget about themselves for a while and play a heroic or tragic character with abilities far beyond their own. Many players play someone or something that they themselves are not... It's the idea of escaping from real life and indulging in a flight of fantasy. After all, if the player were playing a perfectly normal person, what would be the point? | |
